Community and Volunteering
Clark University ensures student interest in volunteering in various programs and actions that benefit the community. The Clarkies – the informal name for undergraduates and graduates of Clark – have always showed keen interest in helping maintain the community and offered valuable assistance every year in many functions, fund raisers and activities.
As of 2009 the university had a total number of more than 900 students volunteering for the community. With thousands of hours of civic service students have shown their dedication to the causes they believed in. On the Clark University campus the CEV Center is the main resource for those interested in helping the community. CEV stands for Community Engagement and Volunteering and makes connections between grads and undergrads with the community.
Usually students volunteer every week depending on their schedule and when they have more free time, but the programs are flexible enough for anyone to join in. If by any chance there are some that are not available every week but would still like to offer their help, monthly or periodic programs are available, to benefit everyone.
In the passing years more than hours of volunteering have been cumulated amongst Clarkies working closely with the CEV Center, and have given part of their time to the St. Peter’s Mentoring Program, to the Regional Environmental Council or the Donna Kay nursing home. Students offer their knowledge and skills in fields or places where it is most needed and that gain their interest, receiving the satisfaction of being able to give a helping hand.
Many student groups are formed to aid the community whichever way they. The satisfaction they get is being able to participate in improving and making part of a growing community. Various activities are available and there are different ways of supporting the cause, from things concerning political issues to recreational activities.
